Having lived in South Jersey for a few years, I discovered some great outdoor places. It certainly looks different then PA, not like the hills of the Wissahickon Valley or the old growth forests of the Endless Mountains. But I found some very nice parks, and of course, the Pine Barrens. Not being a fan of whitewater, paddling the the quiet little rivers of the Pine Barrens is a pleasure.
Another beautiful area is the New Jersey side of the Delaware Water Gap. It’s more rugged and isolated then the PA side. Acquired in the 1960’s as part of a dam project that was never built, we get to enjoy this area in more natural state.
